American Red Cross (SAF) Service to the Armed Forces

The American Red Cross is a lifeline to the U. S. Armed Forces. SAF is uniquely equipped to provide an exclusive worldwide communication and support network that serves as a link between active and retired military service members and their families. The hotline number 1-877-272-7337 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In addition, the American Red Cross provides an economic safety net for low-income military family members who do not qualify for government welfare benefits. We partner with Military OneSource and MilitaryHOMEFRONT to provide social services, emergency travel, financial assistance and mental health support for returning troops, National Guard and Reservists.

The American Red Cross South Florida Region also has been selected as one of 14 pilot sites nationwide to implement the Community Blueprint, a program designed to assist communities in preparing to support service members and their families. The focus of the CBP in South Florida is volunteerism, reintegration and homelessness. (Additional reports attached below.)

South Florida SAF accomplishments:

  • 1,341 emergency messages were delivered to and from local military families
  • 140 military cases were processed
  • Over 750 local military members and veterans from the VA Medical Center received holiday stockings through the Red Cross Stockings for the Troops program.
  • 8,744 individuals received outreach services and 835 attended “Get to Know Us Before You Need Us” briefings.
